Preparatory Prayer
My Lord Jesus Christ, you have made this journey to die for me with love. I have so many times abandoned you, but now I love you with my whole heart. And because I love you, I repent sincerely for having offended you. Pardon me my God, and permit me to accompany you on this journey. You died for the love of me. Grant me your grace to love you forever by following your will. Amen.
First Station
Jesus is Condemned to Death

Consider how Jesus, after having been scourged and crowned with thorns, was unjustly condemned by Pilate to die on the Cross.

Prayer
My adorable Jesus, it was not Pilate, No, it was my sins that condemned you to die. I ask you, by the merits of this sorrowful journey, to assist my soul in its journey towards eternity with you. With your help, let me love you more than myself, my beloved Jesus, I repent with my whole heart for having offended you, Grant me your grace to love you forever by following your will. Amen

Jesus Carries His Cross

Consider how Jesus, in making this journey
with the Cross on his shoulders thought of
us, and for us offered to his Father the death he was about to undergo.

My most beloved Jesus,
I accept all the difficulties and trials in life.
I ask you, by the merits of the pain you suffered in carrying your Cross, to give me the necessary grace to carry mine with perfect patience and resignation. I love you, Jesus, my love; I repent for having offended you.

Third Station
Jesus Falls the First Time
V. We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
R. Because by your Holy Cross, you have redeemed the world.
Consider this first fall of Jesus. His flesh was torn by the scourges, his head crowned with thorns, and he had lost a great quantity of blood. He was so weakened that he could hardly walk, and yet he had to carry this great load upon his shoulders. The soldiers struck him rudely, and thus he fell several times in his way for our redemption.

My beloved Jesus, it is not the weight of the Cross, but my sins, which have made you suffer so much pain.
By the merits of this first fall, deliver me from falling into sin.

Jesus Meets His Sorrowful Mother

Their hearts suffered deep pains and sorrows for the love of the Father in order to save us.

My most loving Jesus, by the sorrow you experienced in this meeting, Grant me the grace of a truly devoted love for your most holy Mother.
And you, my Mother, who were filled with sorrow, obtain for me by your intercession a continual and tender remembrance of the Passion of your Son.

Fifth Station
Simon Helps Jesus to Carry the Cross

Consider how the Jews seeing Jesus on the point of expiring, and feared that he would die on the way. So they asked Simon the Cyrenian to carry the Cross behind our Lord.

My most sweet Jesus, I will not refuse the Cross, as the Cyrenian did;
I accept it, I embrace it.
I unite it to your death, I offer it to you.
You have died for love of me;
I will die for love of you, and to please you.
Help me by your grace.

Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus

Consider how the holy woman named Veronica, seeing Jesus so afflicted, and his face bathed in sweat and blood, presented him with a towel, with which she wiped his adorable face, leaving on it the impression of his holy countenance.

My most beloved Jesus, your face was beautiful before, but in this journey it has lost all its beauty, and wounds and blood have disfigured it.
Alas, my soul also was once beautiful, when it received your grace in Baptism;
but I have disfigured it by my sins.
You alone, my Redeemer, can restore it to its former beauty.
Do this by your Passion, O Jesus. I repent for having offended you.

The Women of Jerusalem Weep over Jesus

Consider how those women wept with compassion at seeing Jesus in deep suffering. But Jesus said to them: “Weep not for me, but for your children.”

I weep not because of the fear of hell, but because I always turn from your love.

Jesus Falls the Third Time

Consider the third fall of Jesus. He was extremely weak and yet his executioners became more cruel. Seeing Jesus with no sufficient strength, they kept on beating him.

My beloved Jesus, by the merits of the weakness you suffered in going to Calvary, give me sufficient strength to conquer all human weaknesses, and all my wicked passions, so that I may not cause you more sorrows and pains. Jesus is Stripped of His Garments

O my dying Jesus, I kiss devoutly the Cross on which you died for love of me.
I have merited by my sins to die a miserable death; but your death is my hope.
By the merits of your death, give me grace to die, embracing you and burning with love for you.
I entrust my soul into your hands.

Jesus is Taken Down from the Cross

Consider how after the death of our Lord, two of his disciples, Joseph and Nicodemus, took him down from the Cross and placed him in the arms of his afflicted Mother, who received him with tenderness, and pressed him to her bosom.

Jesus is Laid in the Sepulchre

Consider how the disciples carried Jesus to bury him, accompanied by his holy Mother,
who arranged his body in the sepulchre with her own hands. They then closed the tomb, and all went home.

My beloved Jesus, I kiss the stone that encloses you.
But you rose again the third day.
I ask you, by your resurrection, make me rise gloriously with you at the last day, to be always united with you in heaven, to praise you and love forever. I love you, my Jesus, with my whole heart;

Concluding Prayer
Almighty and eternal God, merciful Father, who gave to the human race your beloved Son as an example of humility, obedience, and patience, to precede us on the way of life, bearing the Cross.
Graciously grant us your grace that we, inflamed by his infinite love, may take up the sweet yoke of his Gospel together with the mortification of the Cross, following Him as His true disciples, so that we shall one day gloriously rise with Him and joyfully hear the final sentence:
“Come, you blessed of my Father, and possess the kingdom which was prepared for you from the beginning,” where you reign with the Son and the Holy Spirit, and where we hope to live with you, world without end.
